How to apply?

Applications for academic year 2017-2018 will open 1st, March 2017. Hereafter are the procedure and deadlines.

The application procedure is as follows:

  1. Fill-in an application form on line (see details below)
  2. Print your application form, together with all requested documents, to the secretary of the master program :

Printed application forms must be received at last on June 16, 2017 (allow for postage time).

  • For foreign students needing a VISA for studying in France, the selection committee will meet end of May. Application forms for this early meeting must be received by May 23, 2017
  • If your application form is incomplete (exam results missing, for example), please send us the missing documents as soon as you receive them, specifying the program applied for and your internet application number, preferably by fax (for the attention of I. Burel, Secrétariat du Master 2 STS Informatique, Spécialité Science Informatique (SIF) or by post, up to July 3, 2017.

You will know whether your application has been selected or not early July 2017 at the latest. In the event of a positive decision, the procedures to confirm that you will be taking the MRI in Rennes and the administrative registration process will be explained.

Filling-in your application form

You currently live in France or your home country does not have a Centre d’Etudes Français (CEF)

The application website is http://candidatures.univ-rennes1.fr. So far, the application website exists in French only. This website is accessible to all students, either directly for students not yet registered at the University of Rennes 1, or via their ENT (digital workspace) for applicants who are already students at the University of Rennes 1 this year.

This website allows you to enter your personal details, to explain why you have chosen to apply for the Research in Computer Science Master (Science Informatique - SIF) of all the courses offered by the University of Rennes 1, to complete your application form, to monitor its progress, to consult the opinions given and, if the decision is favorable, to be directed to the university’s final registration procedures.

The application form that has to be sent is made of:

  • the application form filled in on site http://candidatures.univ-rennes1.fr: enter your personal information and education details online (particularly make sure you fill in education details for all the years since you left school as precisely as possible) and select “Master STS Informatique” (diplôme Master M2 mention informatique parcours-type Science Informatique SIF) from the courses available.
  • the specific form for the Science Informatique - SIF (Research in Computer Science)  specialism. This form appears automatically when you confirm your program choice as SIF.
    • Your choice of 12 specialized courses by decreasing priority
    • Other applications
    • Skill in english language
    • Marks and ranks (only if you are not already a Rennes 1 University student)
    • Recommandation for the master program (only if you are not already a Rennes 1 University student)

Your home country has a Centre d’Etudes Français (CEF)

Applicants from the following countries (who are not living in France this year ) must register on the website of the Centre d’Etudes Français (CEF) of their country (www.nameofcountry.campusfrance.org): Algeria, Argentina, Benin, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Republic of the Congo, South Korea, Côte d’Ivoire, United States of America, Gabon, Guinea, Mauritius, India, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mexico, Czech Republic, Senegal, Syria, Russia, Tunisia, Turkey, Vietnam and Taiwan.

They can access the CEF application form directly at http://www.campusfrance.org/fr/b-agence/application02.htm.
The CEF will carry out an initial examination of the applications, particularly checking the financial resources available to the student for studying in France. Make sure you fill in education details for all the years since you left school as precisely as possible in your CEF form. The CROUS (Student Welfare Office) information sheet gives an indication of the minimum monthly budget required. Please read it carefully.

The application form that has to be sent is made of:

  • the specific form for the Science Informatique - SIF (Science Informatique - Research in Computer Science) specialism, that will be sent to you by e-mail by the University of Rennes, as well as all the requested documents. The form will be sent to you as soon as your CED form will be received by the university. Asked information;
    • Your choice of 12 specialized courses by decreasing priority
    • Other applications
    • Skill in english and french languages
    • Detailed CV
    • Motivation letter
    • Marks and ranks
    • Recommandation for the master program
  • the applications that do not include some of the documents listed in the specific form for the Research in Computer Science (SIF) will not be examined
